TV reporter resigns after being caught stealing Warriors employee's jacket
A Bay Area television reporter has resigned from ABC7/KGO-TV following an incident at a Golden State Warriors practice in San Antonio last month.
Sportscaster Mike Shumann was caught stealing a jacket belonging to Ralph Walker, the Warriors' director of security and Steph Curry's personal bodyguard.
"It is with sadness that I announce that ABC7 news and I have decided to amicably part ways after 24 years together," Shumann said in a statement.
"I regret any embarrassment I have caused the station. My recent actions do not reflect the high standard of conduct expected at KGO. Nor do they represent the integrity with which I have conducted my professional sports and broadcast careers."
After video evidence surfaced, Shumann admitted to the theft and was pulled off the air while the station conducted an investigation into the matter. Shumann's statement did not mention Walker or the Warriors, but he reportedly apologized to the team in the immediate aftermath of the incident.
