Milwaukee Bucks senior vice president Alex Lasry took issue with a report Tuesday that named several candidates who could potentially take over the coaching reins next season.
"The season is still going on," Lasry tweeted in response to a story by the New York Times' Marc Stein. "There are no candidates and there is no list. What is happening today?!?!?!?"
Stein named five coaching candidates, per sources, that the Bucks may have interest in. Beyond previously rumored names such as Jeff Van Gundy, David Fizdale, and Monty Williams, the report included surprise additions Kevin McHale and Rick Pitino.
McHale was let go by the Houston Rockets 11 games into the 2015-16 season and has been working in broadcasting since. Pitino, meanwhile, was fired in disgrace by Louisville last fall in the wake of the recent NCAA corruption scandal. He hired an agent this month in hopes of landing another coaching job, although he hasn't coached at the NBA level since 2001.
Joe Prunty was named Bucks' interim coach after Jason Kidd was fired on Jan. 22. While he's gone 14-11 so far, Milwaukee has since dropped to eighth in the East. The Bucks' head job figures to be a coveted one if it opens up this summer, given the presence of Giannis Antetokounmpo alone.
