LeBron's 57th triple-double puts him in rare company
LeBron James just has the Charlotte Hornets' number, which was the case once again Friday at Quicken Loans Arena.
Improving to 25-1 against the Hornets since Michael Jordan became majority owner in 2010, James notched his 57th career triple-double in a narrow 100-99 victory to help the Cleveland Cavaliers improve to 12-7 on the season.
In 39 minutes, James finished with a game-high 27 points, 16 rebounds, 13 assists, and three rejections on 10-of-20 shooting from the field.
Since 1963, only one other player has managed to record such a line - Boston Celtics icon Larry Bird, who did so on two occasions.
Date | Player | Points | Rebounds | Assists | Blocks |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
13/01/1982 | Larry Bird | 28 | 19 | 15 | 3 |
01/04/1987 | Larry Bird | 30 | 17 | 15 | 3 |
24/11/2017 | LeBron James | 27 | 16 | 13 | 3 |

Taking the blocks out of the equation, only seven players have had 27-16-13 lines during that span: Bird (two), Wilt Chamberlain (eight), Oscar Robertson (five), James Harden (two), Russell Westbrook (one), Draymond Green (one), and Elgin Baylor (one).
James' 57 triple-doubles are the seventh-most ever. He needs three more to pass Bird, and another 22 to bump Chamberlain down the list.
