Report: NBA, Silver propose plan to reduce rest
Along with draft-lottery reform, the NBA's Competition Committee, at the behest of commissioner Adam Silver, has submitted proposed new guidelines about resting players to the Board of Governors for approval in a Sept. 28 vote, sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.
Silver is intent on curbing the practice of resting of healthy players, particularly for nationally televised games - which will not fall on back-to-backs this season due to the reworked schedule. Silver will also have the power to fine teams that don't comply with the proposed mandate, Wojnarowski reports.
When teams decide to rest players, the proposal reportedly encourages them to do so for home games rather than road games, and star players sitting out are still expected to be on the bench.
