Report: Knicks interested in Jarrett Jack, Archie Goodwin

It's dumpster-diving season for most NBA teams, and the New York Knicks are scouring the bottom of the bin for a bit of extra point-guard depth.

The Knicks are interested in free agents Jarrett Jack and Archie Goodwin, according to ESPN's Ohm Youngmisuk.

The respective point guards would serve different purposes for the Knicks, with Goodwin - a 23-year-old former first-round pick - representing a high-upside play, and Jack - a 12-year vet - being a potentially steadying presence for a team in turmoil.

Neither guy got much NBA run last season. Goodwin spent most of the year in the D-League, and split 15 games between the Brooklyn Nets and New Orleans Pelicans, averaging 7.3 points and 1.6 assists with a .545/.333/.786 shooting line.

Jack spent the first part of the season recovering from a torn right ACL, then tried and failed to land a contract for several weeks before finally landing a 10-day deal with the Pelicans, then tore his meniscus in the same knee after just two games. In 805 career games between seven teams, the 33-year-old has averaged 11 points and 4.5 assists, while shooting 44.1 percent from the field and 34.5 percent from 3-point range.

The Knicks at present have only the hazy outline of a point-guard depth chart. Rookie Frank Ntilikina is the hopeful long-term answer, but it's unclear what he'll bring as a 19-year-old this season. Undrafted second-year combo guard Ron Baker brings some defensive chops and a great motor, but everything beyond that is a question mark. Ramon Sessions is a historically decent backup coming off one of the worst seasons of his career. All of which is to say, the Knicks will take whatever help they can get at the position.
