For those teams unable to land Gordon Hayward, it seems their consolation prize could end up being fellow free-agent forward Rudy Gay.

The Miami Heat, Boston Celtics, and Oklahoma City Thunder have all been mentioned as potential landing spots for the 30-year-old Gay, according to ESPN's Royce Young.

Young specifically mentioned that the Heat could extend Gay a "bigger offer" should they miss out on Hayward. Considering recent developments point to Hayward either landing with the Celtics or returning to the Utah Jazz, Miami may have to table such an offer in the very near future.

The Thunder, however, were mentioned as a "preference" for Gay, according to Young. The report did also note a "sizable gap" in what the Thunder could extend to Gay and what he desires, though.

Like many of the remaining free agents, it now seems front offices are also in a holding pattern until Hayward decides where he will play for the foreseeable future.

Gay played just 30 games last year with the Sacramento Kings after suffering a torn Achilles tendon.
