Report: Knicks to once again pursue Ricky Rubio trade

Just when you think rumors involving Ricky Rubio heading to The Big Apple are dead in the water, they rise from the ashes like a phoenix.

Certain members of the organization would like the New York Knicks to once again make a go of possibly landing the current Minnesota Timberwolves point guard in a trade this offseason, sources told ESPN's Ian Begley.

The Knicks and Timberwolves were linked ahead of February's trade deadline to a deal that would have sent former MVP Derrick Rose to Minnesota, but those talks ultimately amounted to nothing.

The Timberwolves are still reportedly interested in Rose, however, once he hits unrestricted free agency on July 1, although it's unknown at this time whether they and the Knicks would consider a sign-and-trade involving him and Rubio.

Bringing aboard Rubio would also impact what New York does in June's NBA Draft, as it would reduce the urgency to select a point guard with the eighth overall pick.

The 26-year-old Spaniard is locked into his contract for two more years, making $14.1 million next season, with a slight bump to $14.8 million in 2018-19.

He finished fifth overall in assists during the regular season with 9.1 per game, to go along with 11.1 points on 40.2 percent shooting, 4.1 rebounds, and 1.7 steals.
