Dallas Mavericks power forward Dirk Nowitzki will miss at least a week after reaggravating a right Achillies injury during Friday's contest against the Portland Trail Blazers, head coach Rick Carlisle told Mavericks play-by-play announcer Mark Followill.
Nowitzki already missed two of the Mavericks' first four contests with the injury.
After the game, the aging German opened up to reporters about his nagging foot.
"It's been the same for a week now. It gets better on days off, and as soon as I go out there and try to push off, try to show on pick-and-rolls, run backwards, all that stuff is just uncomfortable and sore," Nowitzki told ESPN's Tim MacMahon.

"So just thought I'd just shut it down. I mean, it makes no sense to keep dragging this for weeks, you know? Obviously, it hasn't really gotten better, so we're going to take a few days off and not get on the court, not do all the stuff that makes it sore. And hopefully, I'll be better in a couple days and we can ramp it back up."
The 38-year-old is averaging 15.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, and a block on 36.4 percent shooting in 2016-17.
The Mavericks are left with little depth in their frontcourt, with Andrew Bogut currently away from the team due to personal reasons.
Dallas has had a rough start to the new season, going winless over its first five games.
