Hawks' Mike Scott pleads not guilty to felony drug charges

Atlanta Hawks forward Mike Scott pleaded not guilty to two felony drug charges on Tuesday, Jordan Hill of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

His case is not expected to be heard until sometime in the fall, a source told Hill.

Scott faces up to 25 years in prison for felony possession of marijuana and MDMA, stemming from his arrest nearly a year ago. He was arrested late last July in Banks County, Ga., along with his younger brother, after the vehicle his brother was driving was pulled over for following too closely. The car was found to contain more than an ounce of marijuana and 10.9 grams of MDMA.

Scott claimed the entire stockpile of drugs belonged to him, and that his brother had no knowledge of their presence in the vehicle.

Despite the incident hanging over him, Scott played 75 games for the Hawks this season, averaging 6.2 points and 2.7 rebounds with career-best true shooting (57.5) and 3-point (39.2) percentages. His $3.3-million salary for the upcoming 2016-2017 season becomes guaranteed on Sunday.
