Report: Heat reach out to Tyler Johnson
The Miami Heat have reached out to restricted free agent Tyler Johnson in the wake of the imminent loss of Dwyane Wade, according to NBA TV's David Aldridge.
Johnson signed a reported four-year, $50-million offer sheet with the Brooklyn Nets on Sunday. The Heat must match the offer in order to retain Johnson, and have until July 10 to do so. Aldridge reports the Heat will likely offer a more "cap-friendly" version of the deal Johnson has with the Nets, perhaps meaning backloading money on the contract.
The loss of Wade, in addition to the exit of perhaps the franchise's greatest all-time player, also leaves a scoring hole on the wing. Johnson is a beneficiary of the current salary cap spike with a sizeable deal despite playing only 68 career NBA games. He has been effective, however, averaging 8.7 points on 38 percent 3-point shooting in 24 minutes a game last season.
