Wizards agree to 5-year deal worth reported $128M with Beal
The Washington Wizards have agreed to a five-year max contract with shooting guard Bradley Beal. It is worth $128M according to The Vertical's Adrian Wojnarowski.
The 23-year-old restricted free agent wasn't linked to any other team as it was a foregone conclusion - dating back to last summer - that Beal would remain in the nation's capital.
Beal is one of the best up-and-coming shooting guards, and he's managed to elevate his game for the Wizards in the postseason. He's been somewhat inconsistent in the regular season, but he's averaged 21.2 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 4.6 assists per game in two playoff runs.
The former third overall pick is also an elite 3-point shooter (career 39.7 percent) and profiles as a good defender.
The risk with Beal's contract, however, is that he's been consistently dogged by injuries. He's yet to play more than 73 games in a season, and a stress fracture in his right leg (a recurring problem) limited Beal to only 55 appearances last season.
Nevertheless, locking in Beal gives Washington stability for the future in the backcourt along with star point guard John Wall, while leaving the door open for yet another free agent addition in the coming weeks.
