Report: Rockets sign undrafted Gary Payton II to 3-year deal

After going undrafted, the Houston Rockets swooped in to sign Gary Payton II to a three-year contract, Chris Haynes of Cleveland.com reports.
It's like father, like son for The Glove's namesake: Payton is a dogged defender with incredibly quick hands. Payton averaged 2.5 steals per game last season and his 6-foot-8 wingspan gives him enough length to check both guard positions.
Payton is also a strong finisher, a decent distributor, and an incredible leaper. But his age (23) and iffy jump shot (31.9 percent on threes, 64.7 percent on free throws) are the likely factors for why he slid out of the draft.
