Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone insists that there's nothing personal between him and UFC Fight Night 89 opponent Patrick Cote.
It helps that he barely knows who Cote is.
"I've never seen him (fight)," Cerrone told MMAjunkie. "I know he fought Anderson Silva. I don't remember that fight. I know he fought my buddy Kyle Noke, but I didn't see any of it. I don't watch footage or watch anybody, so it's not talking down to the guy at all. It's not him. I just don't pay attention."
Cerrone's uninformed attitude is somewhat baffling seeing as how his bout with Cote pits two of the most experienced men in the company across from one another. The two men have combined for almost 40 UFC fights across four different weight classes.
Chalk this up as another case of Cerrone signing on the dotted line no matter whose name is on the fight contract. After spending his entire career at lightweight, Cerrone took a fight at 170 pounds in February just two months after losing a title fight against Rafael Dos Anjos.
Cerrone won his welterweight debut against Alex Oliveira by submission and he now looks to win his second straight fight in the division against Cote. Just don't expect Cerrone to go out of his way to hype up the fight.
"I got nothing bad to say about Cote," Cerrone said. "I don’t even know the son of a (expletive), so I can't really badmouth him."
