At 2-0 in the UFC, it shouldn't take long for Amanda Nunes to climb the ladder in a relatively thin women's bantamweight division.
Nunes is set to face former No. 1 contender Cat Zingano at UFC 178, with the winner likely getting a shot at the seemingly bulletproof champion, Ronda Rousey. With a gutsy win over Miesha Tate in April of 2013, Zingano earned a bout with Rousey, but a knee injury derailed her title quest.
Instead of throwing her straight into the lion's den with the champion upon her return from injury, the UFC gave Zingano a tune-up fight against Nunes.
Nunes, for her part, is confident that she can not only roll past Zingano, but that she's ready to ascend to the top of the bantamweight division.
“I think for sure, 100 percent, I beat Ronda Rousey after this fight with Cat,” Nunes told MMAJunkie. “We wait for these moments. You can show that you’re prepared for the title only if you get these very big opportunities. I’m ready.”
