One of the biggest upsets in mixed martial arts history went down Tuesday on Dana White's Contender Series.
Alex Apodaca shocked highly touted prospect Bella Mir in the women's bantamweight main event, earning a unanimous decision win (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) at the Meta Apex in Las Vegas. Mir is the daughter of former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir.
Bella Mir was a -6000 favorite and Apodaca a +1200 underdog entering the fight, according to the broadcast. After the bout, UFC CEO White announced that Apodaca will receive a contract with the promotion.
Apodaca outlanded Mir in all three rounds, boasting a 48-30 edge in significant strikes and a 66-33 advantage in total strikes.
Mir, an accomplished collegiate wrestler who won the 2026 NCAA 145-pound title, struggled to apply her ground skills against Apodaca, completing just one of six takedown attempts.
Apodaca, a 32-year-old from Austin, Texas, improved to 4-1 as a professional with the victory.
Mir, 23, suffered her first career loss, falling to 4-1.
Mir's father, Frank, is a UFC pioneer. He won the heavyweight title in 2004 and beat the likes of Brock Lesnar, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, and Mirko Cro Cop throughout a pro career that spanned 2001-19.
