Report: Gane-Volkov rematch eyed for UFC 308
The UFC is targeting a rematch between top heavyweight contenders Ciryl Gane and Alexander Volkov for UFC 308 at Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi on Oct. 26, sources told MMA Fighting's Alexander K. Lee.
The pair previously met inside the Octagon in the main event of a UFC Fight Night event held at the UFC Apex in June 2021. Gane was named the winner after the judges credited him with a unanimous decision victory.
Gane (12-2) has scored finishes in three of his past five bouts, including a second-round TKO over Sergey Spivak. However, he has sustained losses to former champion Francis Ngannou and current champion Jon Jones.
Volkov (38-10) has won five of his past six bouts and is riding a four-fight win streak in which he finished Jairziho Rozenstruik, Tai Tuivasa, and Alexander Romanov. His last defeat came at the hands of current heavyweight interim champion Tom Aspinall in March 2022.
Gane and Volkov are currently the No. 2- and No. 5-ranked heavyweights, respectively.
