Fiziev tore ACL in UFC Fight Night loss to Gamrot
Rafael Fiziev suffered a torn ACL during his second-round TKO loss to Mateusz Gamrot at Saturday's UFC Fight Night main event, the lightweight fighter revealed Tuesday.
"I'm just sad because I had a very great camp, and I'm ready to show my best skills," Fiziev said in a video posted on Instagram. "And I'm sad because it happened only in the second round.
"I will be back," he added.
The 30-year-old appeared to suffer the left leg injury when he planted his left foot on the mat after throwing a body kick with his right leg that Gamrot blocked. Fiziev immediately dropped to the canvas, and Gamrot rushed him with a flurry of punches before referee Herb Dean stopped the bout.
The Kazakhstan native led on the cards entering the second round after all three judges scored the opening frame 10-9 in Fiziev's favor.
Fiziev didn't reveal a timetable for his return.
The stoppage marked the second consecutive defeat for the No. 7-ranked lightweight fighter following a majority decision loss to Justin Gaethje at UFC 286 in March.
Fiziev enjoyed a six-fight win streak prior to the losses, including victories over Rafael dos Anjos and Bobby Green.
