Chris Weidman is back.

The former UFC middleweight champion will return to the Octagon at UFC 292 on Aug. 19 in Boston, he announced Monday.

Weidman will face Brad Tavares in his return, reports Damon Martin of MMA Fighting.

Weidman hasn't fought since April 2021, when he broke his leg during a fight versus Uriah Hall at UFC 261. He initially planned to return in 2022 but suffered setbacks during his recovery from surgery.

The 38-year-old held the middleweight belt from 2013 to 2015 and earned victories against the likes of Anderson Silva (twice), Vitor Belfort, and Lyoto Machida. Weidman fought four times from 2018-21 before sustaining the injury, going 1-3 in those appearances.

Meanwhile, Tavares has been defeated in his last two fights, including a loss to Bruno Silva via TKO in April. The 35-year-old Tavares is 2-2 since 2021.

A bantamweight title bout between champion Aljamain Sterling and Sean O'Malley, as well as a women's strawweight title fight between champion Zhang Weili and Amanda Lemos, will headline UFC 292.
