Report: Rodriguez stepping in as Lee's opponent on Aug. 28
UFC welterweight Daniel Rodriguez has agreed to fight Kevin Lee at UFC Fight Night on Aug. 28 in Las Vegas, sources told ESPN's Brett Okamoto.
Lee began looking for a new opponent after his original rival, Sean Brady, withdrew from the bout last week due to injury.
A former interim lightweight title challenger, Lee is set to end a 16-month layoff for what will be his first welterweight fight since May 2019. After losing to Charles Oliveira in March 2020, Lee said that it'd take him "a long time" to return to the Octagon.
The 28-year-old, who underwent multiple knee surgeries last year, has lost three of his last four appearances.
Meanwhile, Rodriguez heads into this short-notice match on a two-fight winning streak. The 34-year-old, who defeated Preston Parsons by TKO on July 17, has lost just one of his last six UFC fights.
The bout between Edson Barboza and Giga Chikadze headlines the Aug. 28 event.
