UFC president Dana White said the bout will remain on the card and will be an interim title fight for Holloway only, according to ESPN's Brett Okamoto. If Pettis wins, he will not be awarded the title. He will also surrender 20 percent of his purse to Holloway.
Hollway vs. Pettis was made the main event of UFC 206 after the planned light heavyweight championship fight between Daniel Cormier and Anthony Johnson was scrapped due to Cormier suffering an injury.
Pettis is the first fighter to miss weight for a UFC championship bout since Travis Lutter ahead of UFC 67 in February 2007, according to Mike Bohn of MMAjunkie.
