Holloway sees lightweight division in future

The UFC might need to make another belt soon.

Max Holloway battles Anthony Pettis this Saturday at UFC 206 in Toronto for an interim featherweight championship, but he already has his sights set on the lightweight division. During a Twitter Q&A on Tuesday, Holloway emphatically announced that he will move up a weight class in the future.

"Yes, I'm sure I'm going to move up to lightweight," said Holloway. "I just turned 25, I'm Polynesian, I'm Hawaiian-Samoan, and I love food so I'm definitely going to be stepping up. I don't know how, I don't know when, the weight cut to 145 has been great to me so far.

"I've been asking to go up to 155, but they haven't been answering my requests. I'm definitely going up."

The UFC 206 main event became a championship bout after the undisputed featherweight title was removed from Conor McGregor's waist (whether voluntarily or by company decree is up for debate). Current interim champion Jose Aldo was promoted to undisputed status, while Holloway and Pettis' main-event clash will now be for a new interim title.

Holloway recently praised McGregor for conquering both the featherweight and lightweight divisions, so it's not surprising that he's interested in seeing if he can do the same. "Blessed" has won his past nine fights, an active streak bettered only by Demetrious Johnson (11) and Jon Jones (13).
