Anderson Silva underwent surgery Wednesday to remove his gallbladder, MMAFighting.com's Guilherme Cruz reports.

The surgery was called a success and Silva is expected to be cleared to leave the hospital later this week.

Silva was forced to pull out of a planned UFC 198 fight with Uriah Hall due to abdominal pain, UFC president Dana White confirmed Tuesday.

According to Cruz, Silva was rushed to hospital Tuesday just hours before his team was supposed to fly from Rio de Janeiro to Curitiba for the May 14 event.
