Montreal Impact forward Romario Williams has been loaned to USL outfit Charleston Battery for the 2016 season.

Williams, 21, has yet to appear on the team sheet for either of the Impact's two victories, and has become surplus to requirements for a club with a host of forward options.

Both Dominic Oduro and Anthony Jackson-Hamel are ahead of the Jamaican Under-23 standout in Mauro Biello's squad, with Ivorian star Didier Drogba poised for a return to the first team after missing victories over Vancouver and Red Bulls.

"Based on the depth we have with our attacking players, it would have been difficult for Romario to get extended minutes this year," Impact technical director Adam Braz told the club's website Friday.

"We feel this will be a good move for him in order to further progress and develop. The move also opens up an international slot for us."

Williams, the third overall pick in the 2015 MLS SuperDraft, made two appearances for the Impact last season.
