Boca Juniors star Carlos Tevez has been ruled out for Argentina's upcoming World Cup qualifiers after spraining his left knee
Tevez - who signed with the Argentine giants in the summer following a Scudetto-winning campaign at Juventus - joins an ever-growing list of Albiceleste poised to miss Thursday's clash with Brazil.
Argentina now faces a shorter pool of attack-minded players in lieu of Tevez's injury coupled with other absentees Lionel Messi and Sergio Aguero. Defenders Pablo Zabaleta and Ezequiel Garay will also miss out.
Fortunately for Gerardo Martino's side, Argentina have depth at the attacking positions that would be the envy of other nations, with Gonzalo Higuain, Angel Di Maria, Angel Correa, Ezequiel Lavezzi, and Nicolas Gaitan all available for Thursday's critical qualifier.
"The forward is carrying a muscle strain and a sprain in his left knee and as a result will not start in either of the two next qualifiers," a statement from the Argentinian FA confirmed.
"Carlitos, who was present yesterday in training but did not carry out any activities, was once more at the Julio Humberto Grondona complex but again did not participate in exercises."
With only one point from their first two qualifiers, Thursday's match against Brazil is of even more importance to the Argentines.
