Rapids forward Shinyashiki named MLS Rookie of the Year
Andre Shinyashiki was given the distinction of MLS Rookie of the Year on Tuesday following an impressive 2019 season with the Colorado Rapids.
The forward overcame competition from Philadelphia Union playmaker Brenden Aaronson and Minnesota United midfielder Hassani Dotson to collect the honor.

Shinyashiki, 22, was selected No. 5 in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft following four seasons at the University of Denver. The Brazilian went on to score seven goals and assist three times in his debut MLS season despite starting just 18 games.
In the regular-season matches when Shinyashiki scored or assisted, Colorado won six, drew three, and didn't lose once. He started 17 of his club's final 21 outings and was named MLS Player of the Week following his brace against the Seattle Sounders on Sept. 7.
Dillon Powers was the only previous Colorado Rapids player to win Rookie of the Year after he notched five goals and five assists from midfield in 2013. Powers is now with Orlando City.
