The Vancouver Whitecaps have selected UConn defender Jakob Nerwinski with the 7th overall pick in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft, bringing on the 22-year-old right full-back who made 81 appearances over four seasons, scoring five goals and recording 17 assists.
Heralded as a strong locker room leader, Nerwinski was given the task of restoring confidence in a UConn team that had missed the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2001.
He has also played with the U.S. Under-23 men's national team and will compete with Sheanon Williams and Cole Seiler at right full-back.
