The Houston Dynamo announced Friday that former Chivas USA boss Wilmer Cabrera has been appointed as the club's latest head coach, replacing interim coach Wade Barrett at the helm.
Cabrera returns to MLS having last managed Chivas USA in 2014, and is now tasked with taking the Dynamo out of the Western Conference basement. He reunited with his former star striker Erick "Cubo" Torres at Houston, too.
"I am excited to join the Houston Dynamo," Cabrera said in a club statement. "It's a great club with a great history, and I am ready for the challenge. I look forward to working with the ownership group, management, our staff and the players to return the Dynamo to the level that the club and our fans deserve and expect."
Born in Colombia, Cabrera has spent much of his career coaching youth ranks for various clubs and national teams. His appointment is the fourth in the history of the franchise, and while he brings plenty of experience, some of the players were unhappy with the move as Cabrera replaces Barrett at the helm.
Very, very disappointed Wade will not get the head coaching position. In my opinion, very foolish.

Disappointed Wade not getting the nod as head coach has done so much hard work in a short amount of time with a team that was lost
