Toronto FC re-signs Delgado

Toronto FC announced Wednesday that midfielder Marky Delgado has put pen to paper on a new multi-year deal.

As per MLS policy, the financials and terms of the deal were not disclosed.

"Marky has earned this extension through his consistent production and has developed into a key contributor over the past two seasons for our club," TFC general manager Tim Bezbatchenko told the club's website.

"He has been a reliable part of our roster and our coaching staff is pleased with his development and potential as a young player within our league."

Delgado, 21, is in his second campaign with the Eastern Conference playoff-bound side and his fifth in North America's top flight, after emerging from Chivas USA's youth system ahead of the 2012 season.

The California-born middle-of-the-park player has made 28 appearances this campaign, bagging two goals paired with two assists for Greg Vanney's lot.

With a new deal in his pocket, Delgado can now focus on playing a pivotal role in TFC's title chase. After making a debut playoff appearance last season, which resulted in a drab defeat to the rival Montreal Impact, TFC sits third in the Eastern Conference, four points adrift of the Red Bulls and one back of New York City FC.
