The United States men's national team will be a man short for Friday's historic visit to Cuba after Philadelphia Union midfielder Alejandro Bedoya withdrew from the squad because of injury.

According to a statement from U.S. Soccer, Bedoya will miss out on the team's first trip to Havana since 1947 after he picked up a strained rib muscle that forced him off in the 52nd minute of Saturday's disappointing defeat at the New York Red Bulls.

Rather than add a player in Bedoya's stead, Jurgen Klinsmann will take a 22-man squad to Cuba.

From a club perspective, the Union will hope that Bedoya is fit to return after the international break, with the team sitting in the sixth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, three points ahead of the New England Revolution.

Philadelphia's last two MLS matches are home to a listless Orlando City side on Oct. 16 followed by a visit from the Red Bulls a week later.

Bedoya has made seven appearances for the Union this season following a move from Ligue 1 side Nantes, joining Jim Curtin's lot in August as a Designated Player.
