New York City FC has snatched top spot in the Eastern Conference from Toronto FC courtesy of a last-second Frank Lampard goal in a 3-2 victory over D.C. United at Yankee Stadium on Thursday.
The 93rd-minute goal, Lampard's second of the match after his 85th-minute effort handed the hosts a brief lead, is the former Chelsea star's 11th tally of the season in 16 appearances.
Lampard and fellow Designated Player David Villa accounted for a treble of late goals after Lloyd Sam opened the scoring in the 36th minute. Lamar Neagle bagged an equalizer in the first minute of injury time, only for NYCFC to march down the pitch to set up Lampard's match-winner.
