Chicago Fire sign Armenian striker David Arshakyan
The Chicago Fire announced Wednesday the club has acquired forward David Arshakyan from Lithuanian outfit FK Trakai, penning the Armenian international to a two-year deal with a third and fourth year option.
Arshakyan, 21, has proven himself a prolific scorer in the last few seasons, notching 39 goals in 58 appearances for Trakai, including four hat tricks.
"As we tracked David, we were impressed by his winning attitude and ability to score goals in a variety of different ways," Fire general manager Nelson Rodriguez said in a statement. "He has a very good soccer IQ, imagination, and obvious size. David also expressed a keen desire to join our club in particular and to help us build a championship program."
Arshakyan made his international debut with Armenia on March 29 earlier in the year. He joins fellow Armenian striker Yura Movsisyan in Major League Soccer who currently plays with Real Salt Lake.
