Watch: Valeri splits Sounders defense to open derby-day scoring

Portland Timbers star man Diego Valeri notched his eighth goal of the season on Sunday as his side took on rival Seattle Sounders at Providence Park in a Cascadia Cup league fixture.

Valeri picked up the ball from a pass out wide on his left and effortlessly drove through the Sounders' central defenders, seeing off Chad Marshall one way and Brad Evans the other before taking a free shot at goal.

Why the two defenders failed to close down on Valeri, we'll never know, but the Timbers' fervent fans won't care one bit.
