Red Bulls' Baah set for 4-5 month spell on sidelines
New York Red Bulls defender Gideon Baah is set for surgery and a long layoff after suffering a broken tibia 21 minutes into Sunday's tilt against the Portland Timbers.
Manager Jesse Marsch estimates Baah will miss four-to-five months, ending his 2016 campaign. Communications director Eric Giacometti confirmed the news Monday, comparing it to Chris Duball's injury last year that saw him miss 24 matches of the 2015 Major League Soccer season.
Baah had only recently overcome a niggling thigh issue to feature in the Red Bulls' 2-0 friendly defeat of Club America last Wednesday, but the 24-year-old, who signed from HJK Helsinki in February, will be out of commission for an extended length of time.
The Ghanaian international has been a vital cog in his side's lineup this term, making nine appearances and contributing two goals.
