Report: D.C. United's Espindola faces 2-4 week absence with hamstring injury
D.C. United may be without star player Fabian Espindola for two-to-four weeks after reports emerged that the Argentine forward may have suffered a hamstring injury, according to the Washington Post.
Espindola exited D.C.'s last match against the New England Revolution with only a few minutes remaining and head coach Ben Olsen told reporters the club is currently awaiting results from an MRI exam.
"Hopefully, we get a surprise and it's a mild injury," Olsen said of Espindola, who also dealt with a similar issue earlier in the season.
In his stead, Olsen is weighing the option of starting attacking midfielder Luciano Acosta or utilizing a like-for-like replacement in Alvaro Saborio.
"Acosta has done a good job off the bench but so has Saborio," Olsen said. "They are different in their traits. It's next man up, and a lot of guys want more playing time. It's why we have built a fairly deep squad and hopefully the next guy up can do the job and continue the little bit of momentum we've built the last few games."
