The Philadelphia Phillies are expressing strong interest in veteran outfielder Will Venable, a source told CSN Philly's Jim Salisbury.
Venable, who opted out of his minor-league deal with the Cleveland Indians over the weekend, would improve Philadelphia's depth in the outfield following injuries to Aaron Altherr and Cody Asche.
The 33-year-old hit .244/.320/.350 with six homers and 33 RBIs in 135 games for the San Diego Padres and Texas Rangers last season.
