On the eve of the non-waiver trade deadline, the Toronto Blue Jays are reportedly discussing a deal to acquire Texas Rangers right-hander Yovani Gallardo, according to multiple reports.
Gallardo, who is slated to start Thursday against the New York Yankees, already told the Rangers that he would waive his limited no-trade clause to accept a deal to Toronto.
The impending free agent has been excellent in his first season with the Rangers, crafting a 3.19 ERA and 83 strikeouts across 121 1/3 innings.
Gallardo posted 34 consecutive scoreless innings across parts of seven starts last month, but is coming off back-to-back outings in which he allowed five runs while failing to reach the fifth inning.
The Rangers don't have to trade the 29-year-old, and could extend a qualifying offer to him next season if they don't receive the offer they like, according to Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.
