Roughly one week after being selected with the 22nd pick in the 2015 MLB Draft, right-hander Beau Burrows is poised to begin his professional career after agreeing to terms with the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday.
Burrows, who crafted a 0.79 ERA with 132 strikeouts as a senior for Weatherford High School (Texas), will reportedly receive a signing bonus of $2,154,200 - the exact value of the recommended slot bonus for the 22nd overall selection.
Despite his impressive performance in 2015, Burrows didn't expect to be picked as early as he was.
"I was shocked," Burrows told the Detroit Free Press. "I was surprised it was so early. I read that it's a good organization."
Blessed with a plus fastball that has touched as high as 98 mph, Burrows had committed to Texas A&M before agreeing to terms with the Tigers.
"It's pretty special," he said. "I'm very blessed to be where I am. I feel very confident."
