Kansas City Royals closer Greg Holland was placed on the 15-day disabled list Saturday with a right pectoral strain.
Right-hander Yohan Pino was recalled from Triple-A Omaha to take his place on the active roster.
Wade Davis, Kansas City's set-up man, will take over the closer's role while Holland is sidelined, according to Jeffrey Flanagan of MLB.com.
Holland, who won the American League's top reliever award last season, ranks second in baseball with 97 saves since 2013. He has four saves in four scoreless appearances.
Holland threw an inning of work in Friday's win over the Oakland Athletics.
Davis, meanwhile, has thrown five scoreless innings to begin the season.
