Former first-round pick J.P. Arencibia was released by the Baltimore Orioles on Thursday, reports Roch Kubatko of MASN.
Arencibia went 2-for-17 in Grapefruit League play before being reassigned to the minor-league camp. He was expected to serve as depth in the minors and begin the season at Triple-A Norfolk.
The 29-year-old hit .177 with 10 homers and a .608 OPS in 63 games with the Texas Rangers in 2014.
Arencibia was selected No. 21 overall by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 2007 draft. He spent four seasons with the Blue Jays before signing with Texas.
