Alex Rodriguez is clearly moving into New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi's good books.
A-Rod will bat second Thursday versus the Toronto Blue Jays and serve as the designated hitter.

"You're kidding me!" Rodriguez exclaimed when learning news of his promotion.
"Wow. I like it," he told Newsday's Anthony Rieber.
Rodriguez is 1-for-6 with a walk and has struck out twice. He hit seventh for the first two contests of the three-game set with the Blue Jays.
A-Rod's promotion is likely because Toronto is sending rookie southpaw Daniel Norris to the mound, prompting Girardi to leave many of his left-handed bats - such as Stephen Drew, Brian McCann, Garrett Jones and Brett Gardner - off his card.
