Wilmer Flores made an early departure from the New York Mets' spring opener against the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday at ESPN's Wide World of Sports after being hit on his left wrist by a pitch from Matt Capps in the fifth inning, reports Anthony DiComo of MLB.com.
"It wasn't bad," Flores told reporters after the Mets' 8-2 win. "I was fine. It did hit me a little bit, but it's not a big deal. Nothing to worry about."
Flores, who's expected to serve as New York's everyday shortstop this season, committed a fielding error and went 1-for-2 with a strikeout before leaving Wednesday's contest.
"I'm just here like the years before, fighting for a job," Flores said in February. "I got nothing secure so I'm just fighting for it."
