The Toronto Blue Jays added bullpen depth Friday by agreeing to a minor league deal with left-hander Luis Perez, according to Matt Eddy of Baseball America.
Perez, who was signed by the Blue Jays as an amateur free agent in 2003, will compete for a spot on the active roster during spring training. The 30-year-old reliever has made just six appearances since 2012 after undergoing a pair of surgeries, including Tommy John, on his left elbow.
Perez's most successful season in Toronto came in 2012 when the southpaw struck out 39 batters in 42 innings and posted a 3.43 ERA. He missed nearly all of the 2013 season while recovering from Tommy John surgery and was released by the Blue Jays the following spring.
The Dominican native signed with the Atlanta Braves last season but did not appear in any games.
