Los Angeles Angels right-hander Garrett Richards continues to make progress in his recovery from a gruesome knee injury that ended his season in August.

Richards underwent surgery to repair a torn patellar tendon roughly 10 weeks ago, and should return to the field at some point during spring training. The 26-year-old has already started walking without crutches and doing a host of strengthening exercises, agent Fred Wray told Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times.

“The key to his rehab is not overdoing it for the first three months,” Wray said. “After that, he can slowly work his way back into more activities. From everything I've heard, he’s on pace with everything. It’s going very well.”

Richards, who crafted a 2.61 ERA with a 3.22 strikeout-to-walk ratio over 26 starts in 2014, could begin baseball activities as soon as late January and there's a chance he could be ready when Opening Day arrives.
