After taking a foul tip off the mask in the third inning of Friday night's game against the Cleveland Indians, Yankees catcher Brian McCann was diagnosed with a mild concussion.
The Yankees had McCann examined by a neurologist Saturday morning, and announced that they have placed him on the 7-day concussion DL. They'll replace him with Austin Romine, who has been recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Romine has hit .252/.313/.374 in Triple-A, and has seen just one at-bat with the big-league club this season.
McCann, in his first year with the Yankees, has struggled through a disappointing offensive season, hitting just .238/.294/.384, though his 13 home runs rank third among American League catchers.
This is his first trip to the DL in 2014.
