Brewers second baseman Rickie Weeks said he will not consider a move to the outfield despite being locked into a platoon up the middle with left-handed hitter Scooter Gennett.
According to MLB.com's Adam McCalvy, Weeks was recently approached by Brewers officials to see if he would try the outfield in an effort to get his bat into the lineup everyday.
"I’m a second baseman," Weeks told reporters before Saturday's game against the Yankees. "I feel like right now, I should be playing second base."
With Brewers left fielder Khris Davis struggling, the front office reportedly wanted to get Weeks more playing time since the majority of second base at-bats have gone to Gennett due to matchup considerations.
Brewers manager Ron Roenicke, however, came to the defense of his second baseman.
"It’s not that easy to just put somebody in the outfield," Roenicke said. "It’s hard when you’re moving guys everywhere and then you expect them to be really good defensively."
Weeks is hitting .250/.325/.278 with no homers in 36 at-bats this season.
