Atlanta Braves right-hander Kris Medlen doesn't seem overly concerned that his team's rotation lacks a true ace, emphasizing Thursday on MLB Network Radio that the staff still boasts "five to seven consistent guys who can step in and give us a chance to win every day."
Atlanta's rotation was among the best in the game last season, fashioning a combined 3.51 ERA/3.58 FIP despite the absence of a definitive No. 1 starter. The team's contingent of starters from 2013 remains largely unchanged beyond the departure of veteran Tim Hudson, who signed with the San Francisco Giants back in November.
The Braves still boast an impressive complement of young starters, including Medlen, Julio Teheran, and left-hander Mike Minor. The triumvirate combined for 8.5 wins above replacement in 2013, while each hurler made at least 30 starts and none managed an earned run average higher than 3.21.
