Rejecting a four-year, $50-million offer from the Los Angeles Angels wasn't current Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Matt Garza's choice. He was on vacation with his wife when the offer was made, and didn't want to be disrupted.
Garza explained to Adam McCalvy of MLB.com exactly what happened. "I was on vacation with my wife and I didn’t want to be disturbed, and it was like, ‘Here it is, we’ll pull it in a certain amount of hours.’ I didn’t have a chance to respond, so I just said, ‘Whatever. It is what it is.'"
Garza would get $50 million guaranteed from the Brewers six weeks later.
"I said, ‘I’m on vacation. I’m not thinking about baseball, Dude. Me and my wife are enjoying ourselves.'"
Garza shrugged off the offer and went about his vacation with his wife. How sweet it is to pass up $50 million and still make $50 million.
