Major League Baseball took a dramatic step towards protecting vulnerable catchers on Wednesday, agreeing to a rule amendment that effectively eliminates home-plate collisions, league official Joe Torre announced.
MLB has now decided to eliminate home-plate collisions at home plate, meaning, players must slide going into home.

Several prominent individuals around the league, namely Jim Leyland and Mike Matheny, championed the issue in recent months, advocating for better protection of defenseless catchers.
