The Tampa Bay Rays will start right-hander Drew Rasmussen in Game 5 of the World Series on Wednesday, the team announced.
Rasmussen will pitch on short rest after starting Game 2 on Saturday. The hurler hasn't pitched on three days' rest since 2024 when he was used as a multi-inning reliever and opener.
Rays manager Kevin Cash wouldn't get into his plan on how long Rasmussen would be used in the contest.
"I wouldn't tell you if I had that answer, regardless," Cash told reporters, including Ryan Bass, ahead of Game 5. "Rass is going to take the ball and give us what he can give us."
The 31-year-old Rasmussen threw 89 pitches during Game 2 while allowing three earned runs and two walks in 3 2/3 innings. He put together a career year during the regular season, posting a 16-5 record with 2.67 ERA and 0.91 WHIP.
Rasmussen will pitch opposite Jacob Misiorowski of the Milwaukee Brewers as Tampa Bay looks to keep its season alive following Tuesday's thrilling 12th-inning win.
The Brewers lead the World Series three games to one.
