Los Angeles Rams owner Stan Kroenke is acquiring the Los Angeles Angels from the Moreno family, Kroenke Sports & Entertainment announced Tuesday.
Kroenke is buying a controlling interest in the franchise from Arte Moreno, who owned the Angels for over 23 years. Moreno will retain a minority stake in the club, according to Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register.
The Angels sold for an MLB-record $4 billion, reports Jon Heyman of MLB Network, eclipsing the $3.9-billion sale of the San Diego Padres in May. The sale also includes control of the Angels' regional sports network, Angels Broadcast Television, according to Britt Ghiroli of The Athletic.
The sale is expected to become official in the first quarter of 2027 following MLB approval, per Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com.
"The Angels are a storied franchise anchored in a great market," Kroenke said in a statement. "We look forward to an exciting future with the Angels organization."
Kroenke's company also owns the NBA's Denver Nuggets, the NHL's Colorado Avalanche, the Colorado Rapids of MLS, and Premier League club Arsenal.
Moreno was MLB's first Latino owner. The Angels are poised to miss the playoffs for the 12th straight year after winning five AL West titles and making a pair of ALCS appearances between 2004 and 2009.
"The Moreno family has been honored to steward the Angels for 23 years, and we believe with KSE's experience and success, they are the best next owner for the franchise," Moreno said.
